Crawly was pulled from the claws of a reefclaw by a riverboat fisherman and prophet of Chiuta. Normally, a grindylow like crawly would have nothing to do with humanity but the kindness of the fisherman caused crawly to reconsider. The transformation was not an easy one and crawly still struggles with his more base urges.
In the service of Chiuta, crawly was able to negotiate a peace and trade agreement with a nearby lizardman tribe—a task thought impossible by most. Recently, Crawly has begun to investigate the sudden appearance of boggards in the region. Boggard have little respect for the territory of others and shun the worship of the River Mother.
Purple Duck Note: I probably wouldn't use a straightforward grindylow in my campaign. If he were my PC or DMPC he would probably be a grindylow cavalier riding a mawgriff.
